Using this new @dove Melanin Even Tone body wash from @walmart has been such a delight, as it’s both cleansing and exfoliating, which is a super important part of my skincare routine. It also smells so fruity and feminine, which is an added bonus hehe. Caring for our skin truly goes beyond just lathering on some moisturizer at the end of the day—— always approach from the inside out and the root!

↠ #ad This one is for all my curly girls! I have spent the better part of my young adult life trying to figure out how to care for my hair because bottom line, curls are not easy! I thought I had a good routine down, but after pregnancy, my hair dramatically changed! So to say I’ve felt stuck again like I did in my teenage years would be an understatement! But alas, I think I’ve finally realized that the secret to caring for curls truly is a “less is more” approach.

I recently tried @SheaMoisture from @krogerco and it has really brought me back to the basics. I used to use their Coconut & Hibiscus collection as a teen! But for this season, their Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil line is wonderful for me! Super hydrating with really lovely ingredients. Add in a hair mask for extra hydration to beat this winter dryness and that’s it! I don’t use any additional products and my curls thank me for just letting them be!

As women, I think it’s so important to acknowledge that our hair is one of our best natural accessories, and should be nurtured with care just the same as we would with our skin, clothing style, makeup, etc. Taking time to thoughtfully care for our hair isn’t only for ourselves, but those around us too! I love looking neat and presentable for my husband and family, and encouraging other women (especially my curly girls) to wear their hair down and natural!

↠ Slowly but intentionally making this little old space our cozy little home. I am convinced this is the perfect blue, and that’s coming from a gal who used to shun at anything that wasn’t within the fifty shades of beige color palette, hehe. Tis the season of growth and stepping outside of my beige comfort zone! This color just suits our little boy’s nursery so well. It feels calming while still interesting, and looks rich in tone while still being dusty and muted. I feel an immense sense of coziness when walking into this space, which is exactly how it should feel! If you’ve been thinking about color drenching a room in a more bold color, here is your sign! Paint the trim! Paint the ceiling! It’s all or nothing this year hahaha. I’m already thinking about some pretty bold (dare I say insane) choices for some other rooms in our new house! So stay tuned for that!

#ad ↠ The start of the new year is the absolute perfect time to focus on nourishing your body and keeping your immune system at peak health, especially during the chilly winter months! Aside from the obvious things like home cooked meals, time outdoors in the sunshine, and prioritizing rest, I am a big believer of staying on top of daily vitamins and supplements! My biggest weapon against the cold season is vitamin C! I get the gummy kind at @krogerco because I am forever a gummy vitamin gal so if gummy is an option, I’m taking it! They’re just so tasty!

↠ It was a simple Christmas this year, spent just the three of us in a house we had only lived in for a few days! But, we made the most of it! Chipping paint, holes in the walls, boxes everywhere, minimal decor and all! Despite it not being the cozy first Christmas as a family I had dreamed of, the circumstances really brought so much perspective to me of the true meaning of this season (focusing on the life of Jesus) and for once, was able to shift my focus away from the perfect decor/perfect styled photos/shopping galore/feeling the need to rush and start Christmas in July hahaha. We truly just enjoyed Christmas in all its’ goodness. While I do hope to have a slightly more beautiful space next year, I hope these perspective shifts remain! Now if you need me, I’ll be over here relishing in Christmas for just a little while longer until Epiphany!

↠ It’s officially the Christmas season, and even though these photos are from weeks ago because our house is in the midst of being packed up right now, I’m still so thankful that we get to experience just a smidge of this season in this home. I’m absolutely distraught thinking about the fact that our sweet boy isn’t going to wake up in his little nursery on his first Christmas morning since we’ll have just moved out, but, we’re all going to be together and I think that’s what’ll make this the best Christmas yet. Not a beautiful home filled with Christmas decor, or a perfectly curated space. If you’re in a season where things aren’t quite the way you imagined, just know that there is still goodness in the between, in the waiting, and the in the “not quite there yet” moments. Happy Christmas season friends!

↠ Our last Christmas season in this home. It’s all so bittersweet, but cherishing each day in this space until we pack up and move on out! Thank you all for the encouraging messages of support in this next chapter for us!

↠ The secret’s out—— we’re moving! Oh the lessons we have learned this past year. Moving across the country to a fixer upper home while pregnant, and then renovating that home while becoming parents for the first time, all while living in the biggest house I’ve ever lived in on the most land I’ve ever owned…is not a recipe I would recommend! Don’t get me wrong, we love our home and where we live. We’ve poured so much into it. However, a few months back, we finally came to one an another in a place of exhaustion, desperately seeking change. Through much conversation, we realized that our big homestead dreams had shifted since having a baby, and for this season, we needed to make some changes!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
First off, we really wanted to downsize. I need to be able to manage my home well and having a big house was not the solution for this season! Secondly, Zach was spending so much time tending to the land and house projects that we just were not getting any quality time resting as a family. Plus, with me stepping away from social media work, we needed to re-evaluate financially too. So here we are. A few months after having these long, difficult discussions with sunshine at the end of the tunnel, alas! We’re moving!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Selling our home and property has been such a bittersweet process, oh my. But our trade off is going to be so worth it to us. Downsizing means more time spent together, less time I have to scurry about managing a big ole house, and we’re going to be moving closer to our friends and church, which means no more spending countless hours a week driving to and from. It really is such a blessing the way this all worked out. Did we have to learn this lesson the hard way? Absolutely. But we’re grateful that we were both on the same page, and we’re excited for what’s to come!

We found a small, humble abode, a little two bedroom beauty and we move in just a few weeks. I’m just so excited to join the small house club for this season. Who’s with me?

↠ Changing out the sheets, quilts, and pillows for the seasons is up there on my list of favorite pastimes, anyone else? Went a little darker this year with deep browns and olive tones, and I think I’m in love, hehe. Something about the richer colors feels more mature to me, and makes my eyes swoon! #citizenmade
